What if Superman and Michael Myers had a baby?
Following its premiere at the Comic-Con Experience in Brazil, a trailer for the James Gunn-produced BrightBurn hit the internet—and it’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen. While Sony, Marvel, and DC have been promising us more horror-adjacent superhero movies for years, this could actually be the first, perfect amalgamation of comic-book fantasy and the darkest aspects of our beloved genre.
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?
BrightBurn was directed by David Yarovesky (TheHive) from a screenplay penned by Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn. The film stars Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect), David Denman (13Hours, Power Rangers), Jackson A. Dunn (Shameless), Matt Jones (Mom, Home) and Meredith Hagner (Younger, Set it Up). James Gunn produces, with executive producersMark Gunn, Brian Gunn, Dan Clifton, Simon Hatt, and Nic Crawley.
Look for BrightBurn in US theaters beginning May 24th,2019.

What if a baby from another world, despite the best efforts of his adopted parents, turned out to be a little twisted? This is the premise of BrightBurn, a horror film produced by James Gunn and written by Mark Gunn and Brian Gunn. Frequent James Gunn collaborator David Yarovesky (The Hive) will direct the film which stars Elizabeth Banks, Jackson A. Dunn, David Denman, Gregory Allen Williams, Matt Jones, Meredith Hagner, and Steve Agee.
The former director of Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn actually started his career in the horror genre with 2006’s Slither. He also explored odd super heroes in 2010’s Super, so Gunn is no stranger to either genre, and his role as producer is sure to rub off on his brother (Brian) and cousin (Mark), as well as Yarovesky.
BrightBurn will be released on Memorial Day, May 24, 2019.

We’ll finally see our first footage from the James Gunn-produced horror film BrightBurn tomorrow as Sony Screen Gems promised a trailer in the following tweet. It is set to arrive in theaters on May 24, 2019.
Seemingly related, we learned earlier this year that Gunn was producing an untitled horror film to be directed by David Yarovesky (The Hive), which *could* be the very same project he was set to reveal at SDCC. That film has Elizabeth Banks attached to star, with the script penned by Brian and Mark Gunn.
James Gunn had announced six months ago, “About a year ago my brother Brian, my cousin Mark, director David Yarovesky, producer Simon Hatt and I started coming up with an idea for a horror film that excited me in a way nothing outside of Guardianshas in years – it was personal, and different, and perfectly suited for our times. And, yes, terrifying.”
I expect we’ll have all of our questions answered tomorrow.

We’ve been getting word here and there about just what the hell James Gunn’s new horror movie starring Elizabeth Banks will be, including a rumor that it was an adaptation of Bloodborne.
And today we finally have confirmation via Deadline.
It looks like producer James Gunn’s new horror movie is called BrightBurn and will now be released on May 24, 2019, instead of its original Nov. 30 release date.
No other details have been revealed at this time.
David Yarovesky (The Hive) will direct the film from a script written by Brian and Mark Gunn. The H Collective will fully finance the flick and produce alongside Gunn and his Troll Court Entertainment. The thriller will be released by Sony on May 24, 2019.
We’ll let you know when we hear more!
STXfilms and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment have officially announced that Brian Henson’s The Happytime Murders, starring Melissa McCarthy, Elizabeth Banks, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Leslie David Baker will be coming onto Blu-ray (waka, waka, get it?) this December.
The movie got horrid reviews and audience reactions were not much better. I’m thinking I might save this one for a rainy day. Like a super-hurricane rainy day.

The Happytime Murders is directed by Brian Henson from a screenplay by Todd Berger and stars Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks. Henson, McCarthy, Jeff Hayes, and Ben Falcone produce. It’s rated R for “strong crude and sexual content and language throughout, and some drug material.”
It will be available on December 18.
The Happytime Murders is a raunchy comedy set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives with a shared secret, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together again to solve the brutal murders of the former cast of a beloved classic puppet television show. A hilarious buddy cop murder mystery comedy at heart, the film is unapologetically bold and keeps audiences entertained from start to finish.
