Hugely Positive Response from HELLBOY Test Screening in Los Angeles

UK film critic and academic Mr. H got the exclusive run-down on a recent test screening of Neil Marshall’s Hellboy that took place in Los Angeles. While test-screening reactions always need to be taken with a grain of salt, as they represent a version of a film that isn’t finalized yet. In this case, however, no one from Lionsgate should panic, because the response was overwhelmingly positive.

You can check out Mr. H’s complete rundown in the video above. I’ll keep it brief here for those of you who enjoy going to films knowing as little as possible. I will reveal that Mr. H’s insider is familiar with the source material, and praised Marshall for staying true. I also feel comfortable revealing that the version screened was violent as fuck and very liberal with profanity. It sounds like we’re in store for a real roller coaster when Hellboy arrives in theaters on April 12th.

As for a leaked trailer for Hellboy, which stars David Harbour as the big red guy, Lionsgate did an extremely efficient job keeping it corraled. Still, I don’t think it would be unreasonably optimistic to expect to see an official trailer release in the coming weeks—if not sooner!

Synopsis:
Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.

In addition to Harbour, Hellboy stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, and Sasha Lane. Stay tuned for additional details as news emerges!

We Have the Release Information for Neil Marshall’s HELLBOY Trailer!

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been sharing the videos of UK film critic and academic Mr. H (especially since he’s gotten his hands on the notoriously hard-to-get screenplay for Clive Barker’s unmade 2014 Hellraiser remake). He’s returned the favor by passing on some exclusive information regarding the release date for the trailer for Neil Marshall’s Hellboy!

According to his sources (which have always proven impeccable) the trailer for Hellboy 2019 will hit the internet in December; though an exact date remains elusive, history suggests the trailer will hit before Hollywood essentially shuts down between Christmas and New Year’s Eve—meaning it shouldn’t be more than a few more weeks.

A huge “Thank You” to Mr. H for the lead; check out some of his recent features in the links below.

Bloody Image Revealed for Neil Marshall’s R-Rated HELLBOY Reboot

While we’ll always feel a tinge of sorrow over the way Guillermo del Toro was fired from the Hellboy franchise (not to mention a hint of resentment that Ron Perlman will no longer play the titular antihero) we’re giving Hellboy 2019 the benefit of the doubt with Neil Marshall (The Descent) in the director’s chair and David Harbour donning the red makeup, sawed-off horns, and that fist of fury.

We’re just getting a new look at Harbour as Hellboy, courtesy of Empire Magazine, and we’ve got to admit: He looks pretty fucking powerful! Marshall is directing Hellboy from a script penned by Andrew Cosby and, in addition to Harbour, the movie will star Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, and Thomas Haden Church. Look for it to hit US theaters beginning April 12th, 2019.

Test-Screening Reactions for HELLBOY 2019 Leaked Online—And They Aren’t Good

Despite being asked to sign nondisclosure agreements, it’s becoming more and more common for test-screeners of upcoming films to leak their reactions. Such has been the case for The New Mutants, The Predator, Halloween, and The Grudge. Now, test-screener reactions to the upcoming Hellboy reboot are finding their way online—and they’re none too good.

As always, I’d be remiss if I didn’t put the nature of test-screenings into proper context: Text-screening are a common part of the post-production filmmaking process, and producers usually screen intentionally unfinished cuts. It’s a way to gauge what’s working and what isn’t, giving producers time for fine-tuning—or major overhauls.

That said, the reactions to the test-screenings of 2019’s Hellboy are, at least, cause for concern. Give the video recap from Mr. H a spin below for all the details. If you can’t stream, here’s the bottom line in a nutshell: David Harbour does an adequate job as the titular Hellboy, but the script and the main villain are underwhelming.

It’s also worth noting that, despite releasing a trailer for Hellboy weeks ago at New York Comic-Con, it has yet to be released online. This is another red flag, one that seems to indicate the studio may even be attempting to bury the film. Time will tell.

Hellboy, directed by Neil Marshall, is slated for release on April 12th; in addition to Harbour, the film stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, and Sasha Lane.

‘Hellboy’ Banner Art Reveals Milla Jovovich’s Nimue and Ian McShane’s Professor Broom!

Director Neil Marshall (The Descent) is going much darker than Guillermo del Toro did with his upcoming Hellboy, a rated “R” reboot starring David Harbour (“Stranger Things”) as the title character.

We shared one of the coolest posters we’ve seen in a long time and now have our hands on a special piece of New York Comic Con art available at the ongoing show. It’s important because it gives us our first look at Milla Jovovich as Nimue, the film’s villain, as well as Ian McShane as Professor Broom!  Oh, and the banner is also promising an eclectic cast of monsters for Hellboy to battle.

Also starring are Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio; Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida; and Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan with Sophie Okonedo (After Earth), Brian Gleeson (mother!) and Alistair Petrie (The Night Manager, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).

The new story sees the hero squaring off against a medieval sorceress who seeks to destroy humankind.

Hellboy is reborn April 12, 2019.

Official Shot of Keanu Reeves on Horseback in ‘John Wick: Chapter 3’ is the Badass Image We All Need Today

Even though Keanu Reeves has ridden a horse several times in his career, the internet went wild this past summer when photos from the set of John Wick: Chapter 3 showed the title character galloping through a city street. Now, Lionsgate has released an official still from that sequence in all of its glory and it’s just as over-the-top awesome as you may have hoped. The action choreography in this franchise has been some of the best ever, thus I’m expecting this sequence to be jaw-dropping when it’s released on May 17, 2019.

Chad Stahelski’s John Wick: Chapter 3 also brings back to of the franchise’s key players, Winston (Ian McShane) and Charon (Laurence Fishburne). We also previously shared a first look at Halle Berry’s Sophia, described as “a woman on a mission.”

In the film…

“John Wick (Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”

Lance Reddick also returns with the full cast including Anjelica Huston, Asia Kate Dillon, Mark Dacascos, Jason Mantzoukas, Tiger Hu Chen, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman.
