Unboxing Phenomenon to Become a Feature Film?

Unboxing videos have become all the rage; from hotly-anticipated electronics to mystery packages purchased on the “dark web”. YouTube is awash with videos of excited buyers ripping into their recently arrived packages, eager to share the treasure (or mysteries) within with their followers. Today, we’re getting word that the unboxing phenomenon is being developed into a feature film at Paramount.

Early reports compare Unboxing’s plot to Gremlins: A YouTube unboxer decides to treat her followers to something a little different: Opening her fathers secret safe. What she unlocks, however, is a bevy of mischievous imps! The script for Unboxing was penned by Jim Hecht and will be produced by Pocket.watch.

No word yet on who’s directing and starring or a target release date, but we’ll be unpacking additional details as news emerges. Stay tuned! In the meantime, check out a random yet mysterious unboxing video below.

SCARY STORIES Documentary Acquired by Wild Eye Releasing, Theatrical Release Planned for 2019

With a Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark feature film (co-written and produced by Guillermo del Toro) on the way from CBS Films and eOne, there couldn’t be a better time for a deep dive into the cultural impact of Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell’s beloved children’s books. Director Cody Meirick provides just that with his new documentary Scary Stories, which has now secured a distributor. 

Deadline reports that Wild Eye Releasing picked up global rights to the Scary Stories documentary, with a theatrical release planned for 2019.

Brimming with more than 40 interviews, Scary Stories examines the seemingly endless influence of Schwartz and Gammell’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book trilogy. From R.L. Stine to Alvin’s son Peter to librarians and scholars who fought to keep the book from being banned from young readers, Scary Stories truly takes an all-encompassing look at how special these books are to generations of readers.

We’ll keep Daily Dead readers updated on the release date for Scary Stories when one is announced, and in the meantime, you can read our Q&A with director Cody Meirick and Salem Horror Fest review of the documentary.

We’re well into November now with Thanksgiving right around the corner. While it’s always horror season for true fans, October is the time for slashers for most casual fans. Never fear though… there’s some great stuff coming in the near (and distant future).

Suspiria 2018

After the Halloween franchise finally made a return to the big screen last month (check out Chewie’s review of Halloween (2018) here) after a long layoff after the reboot of Halloween this month, many have started to speculate which will be the next horror film to come out of the grave. Here are some odds on possible movies that could be released in the next three years.

“Going Green” Hurts in First Trailer for LEPRECHAUN RETURNS

We’ve shared a couple posters for the latest installment in the enduring Leprechaun franchise, Leprechaun Returns, over the past couple weeks. Today, we’ve gotten our first look at the trailer for the film, and it looks like a jolly good time for horror fans! This time, the titular Leprechaun has set his sights on the AU Sorority House, and some intuitive fans have already commented on the fact that AU is the symbol for gold on the Periodic Table!

Directed by Steven Kostanski from a script penned by Suzanne Keilly, the film hits various VOD platforms on December 11th.

Synopsis:
The deadly, wisecracking Leprechaun is back in all his gory glory. When the sorority sisters of the Alpha Upsilon house decide to go green and use an old well as their water source, they unwittingly awaken a pint-sized, green-clad monster. The Leprechaun wants a pot of gold buried near the sorority house, but first, he must recover his powers with a killing spree—and only the girls of AU can stop him.

LEPRECHAUN RETURNS Trailer Revealed by Entertainment Weekly Ahead of the Movie’s December 11th Digital and On Demand Release

“Why do you look so sore? Audiences love lots of gore.” After giving horror fans plenty of nightmare fuel from his performance in Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block, Linden Porco returns to deliver more scares (this time accompanied with witty one-liners) as the titular character in Leprechaun Returns. Ahead of the film’s December 11th release on Digital and On Demand from Lionsgate, Entertainment Weekly has unveiled the movie’s first trailer and new key art that just might “shamrock your world.”
