After Losing Rick Grimes, “The Walking Dead” Just Hit a New Ratings Low for the Damn Good Season 9

Many had expected the declining ratings for “The Walking Dead” to drop even further in the wake of Rick Grimes’ final episode, but we were surprised to see that the viewership actually didn’t drop at all between that “event” episode and the first episode without Rick. Then again, perhaps that was to be expected, as the 6-years-later time jump was an event in its own right.

The news isn’t as good this week, as it’s being reported that 4.8 million total viewers tuned in to watch “Stradivarius” this past Sunday night, for a 1.8 rating in adults 18-49.

For the sake of comparison, here are the episode-by-episode numbers for Season 9:

  • Episde 9.1 – 6.08 million
  • Episode 9.2 – 4.95 million
  • Episode 9.3 – 5.04 million
  • Episode 9.4 – 5.10 million
  • Episode 9.5 *Rick’s Final Episode* – 5.41 million
  • Episode 9.6 – 5.4 million
  • Episode 9.7 – 4.8 million

For more context, “Stradivarius” is one of the lowest rated episodes in the show’s history, and the series has now shed over one million viewers between episodes 9.1 and 9.7 alone.

The bummer here is that “The Walking Dead” has been having a great season this year, feeling fresher and more interesting without Rick than it had been with him these last few years. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the ratings jump back up a bit this coming Sunday night, as it’s another mid-season finale, but we can’t help but wonder how much wind the series has left in its sails now that its longtime main character is no longer involved. It seems many viewers just aren’t on board without Rick, and that’s serious cause for concern going forward.

The mid-season finale, “Evolution,” airs Sunday night, November 25.

Best. News. Ever. Netflix is Keeping the Complete “Goosebumps” TV Series on Their Streaming Service!

For a while now, all 74 episodes of the “Goosebumps” TV series from the 1990s have been streaming on Netflix, but we learned earlier this month that all four seasons (along with all the specials… we’re talking literally everything “Goosebumps”-related here), were going to be removed from the streaming service. That was supposed to happen on November 19th.

Yes, that was indeed the plan, but at the final hour, Netflix decided to save “Goosebumps,” meaning the series was *not* removed this week and isn’t going to be anytime soon!

The series is currently still out of print on home video, so god bless Netflix for making the decision to keep it around. But can we please get a complete Blu-ray set at some point?!

“Goosebumps” originally ran from October 1995 into November 1998.

[Video] Ruby Rose’s Batwoman Arrives in Teaser Trailer for The CW’s “Arrowverse” Crossover Event

We cannot wait to see Ruby Rose as Batwoman in The CW’s upcoming Arrowverse event, titled “Elseworlds,” which could lead to her take on the character getting her own show.

In the meantime, check out the first footage of Rose’s Batwoman below!

EW recently detailed, “This year’s crossover includes The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl. Rose will make her debut as Kate Kane’s masked alter-ego in the middle Arrow hour, which sees Oliver (Stephen Amell), Barry (Gustin), and Kara (Melissa Benoist) travel to Gotham City to track down Arkham Asylum doc John Deegan (Lost‘s Jeremy Davies). In the scene depicted above — which EW was on set to watch — Batwoman uses her grapple hook and Batarang to stop two inmates from escaping Arkham Asylum, and saves Green Arrow and Cisco in the process.”

This year’s Arrowverse event, “Elseworlds,” begins Sunday night, December 9.

Audience Network Renews Stephen King Series “Mr. Mercedes” for a Third Season

It may not seem like anyone is really watching “Mr. Mercedes, a small screen adaptation of Stephen King’s trilogy that rarely ever seems to come up in conversation, but it’s obviously doing quite well as the AT&T Audience Network has just renewed it for a third season.

Variety reports that “David E. Kelley will return to oversee the writer’s room with Jack Bender directing. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill Entertainment will return as executive producers along with Tom Lesinski and Jenna Santoianni of Sonar Entertainment, and Shane Elrod and Kate Regan of Audience Network.”

“Production on the new batch of 10 one-hour episodes is scheduled to begin in early 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina with the premiere slated for later in the year.”

The second season of “Mr. Mercedes” took place a year after Brady Hartsfield’s (Harry Treadaway) thwarted attempt to perpetrate a second mass murder in the community of Bridgton, Ohio. Since the incident, Hartsfield had been hospitalized in a vegetative state. Retired Detective Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) did his best to move on from his Brady obsession, teaming up with Holly Gibney (Justine Lupe) to open Finders Keepers, a private investigative agency. But when unexplainable occurrences began to affect hospital staff members attending to Brady, Hodges was haunted by the feeling that Brady was somehow responsible.

On 10th Anniversary, Creator Alan Ball Reveals Big Name Stars Who Auditioned for “True Blood”

Believe it or not, it’s now been 10 years since we first met Anna Paquin’s Sookie Stackhouse and Stephen Moyer’s Bill Compton in HBO’s “True Blood, which premiered back in September 2008. At its best, the series was a wildly entertaining good time driven by one hell of a fun cast, which also included Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley and Alexander Skarsgård.

Speaking about the show’s cast, series creator Alan Ball reflected over the weekend during a 10th anniversary screening of the pilot that it could’ve been very, very different.

Deadline relays the info…

Benedict Cumberbatch came and read for Bill,” he said of the role that eventually went to Stephen Moyer. And that’s not all. Jessica Chastain read for what would be Anna Paquin’s role of Sookie Stackhouse. But perhaps most juicy was the news that Jennifer Lawrence was almost a were-panther in Season 3.

“She was great,” Ball said of Lawrence. “But… because she was going to be Jason’s girlfriend, and she was 17 at the time, were like, ‘No that’s gross.’”

Jennifer Lawrence as a were-panther… how wild would that have been?!

Netflix’s Docuseries ‘The Innocent Man’ Focuses On Murders In Oklahoma

In a story that gained national attention with John Grisham’s best-selling non-fiction book, “The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town”, the six-part documentary series The Innocent Man focuses on two murders that shook the small town of Ada, Oklahoma, in the 1980s — and the controversial chain of events that followed.

“The documentary series of The Innocent Man is gripping, compelling, and ultimately just as heartbreaking as the book,” said Grisham.

Directed by Clay Tweel (Finders Keepers, Gleason, Out of Omaha), The Innocent Man includes interviews with victims’ friends and families, Ada residents, attorneys, journalists, and others involved in the cases. (Grisham appears, as does attorney Barry Scheck, co-director of the Innocence Project.) Developed as a documentary series by Tweel and Ross Dinerstein, it blends new footage with compelling archival video and photos. The series is produced by Maura Anderson and Shannon Riggs. Executive producers are John Grisham, David Gernert, Tweel and Dinerstein.

The Innocent Man streams December 14th.
