Here’s Your First Look at Alex Brightman as the Ghost With the Most in the ‘Beetlejuice’ Broadway Musical

We may be no closer to that Beetlejuice sequel finally becoming reality, but the beloved characters will at least be returning in a musical that’s headed to Broadway early next year. The musical will arrive in March 2019 at the Winter Garden Theatre, with the official opening set to follow on April 25. Previews began in Washington D.C. last night, and EW has your first look at star Alex Brightman in the role that Michael Keaton made famous back in 1988.

The musical’s “ghost with the most” is described as being “younger” and “punkier” than the film’s version. “[His Beetlejuice] is definitely not a Michael Keaton impression. It’s his own. It’s filtered through the sensibility of Alex Brightman,” director Alex Timbers told the site.

He also noted, “There are Easter eggs from the film, and what I want to do is pass the sniff test for fans, but I want it to feel like its own surprising, exciting piece of theater.”

Directed by Alex Timbers, with a score by Eddie Perfect, book by Scott Brown & Anthony King and choreography by Connor Gallagher, the pre-Broadway engagement stars Alex Brightman and Sophia Anne Caruso as the title character and Lydia Deetz, respectively.

Beetlejuice tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange teenager obsessed with the whole “being dead thing.” When Lydia calls on a degenerate demon to scare away her insufferable parents, Beetlejuice comes up with a plan involving exorcism, arranged marriages and an adorable girl scout who gets scared out of her wits.

The musical officially opens at Washington’s National Theatre on November 4.

THE WALKING DEAD Episode 9.03 Photos and Preview Videos

Following the Friday the 13th-esque ending of last night’s episode of The Walking Dead, viewers no doubt have a lot of questions about what’s going to happen next, and we have photos and preview videos from next week’s episode (aptly titled “Warning Signs”) to help tide you over.

The Walking Dead Episode 9.03 – “Warning Signs”: “Rick’s vision for the future is threatened by a mysterious disappearance that divides the work camp where the communities are building a bridge.”

“Warning Signs” premieres on Sunday, October 21st at 9:00pm ET on AMC. Keep an eye out for more updates on The Walking Dead right here on Daily Dead, and check here for our previous season 9 coverage.

The Walking Dead Season 9 synopsis: “Last season brought the culmination of “All Out War,” which pitted Rick Grimes and his group of survivors against the Saviors and their cunning leader, Negan. With Negan’s life in his hands, Rick had a character-defining choice in front of him. By making the unilateral decision to spare Negan, Rick upheld the values his late son, Carl, championed in order to build for the future, but created conflict within his group.

Now, we see our survivors a year and a half after the end of the war, rebuilding civilization under Rick’s steadfast leadership. It is a time of relative peace among the communities as they work together, looking to the past to forge the future, but the world they knew is rapidly changing as man-made structures continue to degrade, and nature takes over, changing the landscape and creating new challenges for our survivors.

As time passes, the communities confront unexpected obstacles, danger, and of course, walkers, but nothing quite prepares them for the formidable force they are about to encounter, which threatens the very idea of civilization that our survivors have worked so hard to build.

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, “The Walking Dead” reigns the number one drama on television among adults 18-49 for the last six seasons. The series is executive produced by chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, showrunner Angela Kang, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero, Tom Luse and Denise Huth.”

Buyer Beware – Hong Kong/Malaysia, 2018

‘Haunted houses for sale’

Buyer Beware – original title: Ji wu – is a 2018 Hong Kong-Malaysian supernatural horror feature film written and directed by Malaysian-born Jeffrey Chiang (Dilarang masuk). The movie stars Carlos Chan Ka-lok, Cheung Kwok-keung, Mimi Kung Chi-yan and Carlos Chan Ka-lok.

Young and financially struggling Charlie (Carlos Chan Ka-lok), is forlorn after his break-up with his materialistic girlfriend Shermaine (Carmen Tong Ka-man ) and is also burdened with paying hefty hospital bills for his father, who is in a coma.

Charlie joins a rising property agency headed by wealthy middle-aged couple Gordon (Cheung Kwok-keung) and Lucy (Mimi Kung Chi-yan), however they specialise in buying up dirt cheap properties after someone has died or been murdered in them. He soon finds himself burying his conscience in front of oblivious clients as he sells them blatantly haunted properties…

“There are enough unnerving moments to make your skin crawl, especially as it plays on your fears of empty abandoned houses with brutal or tragic histories, but not quite sufficient for this to be anything more than an adequate Hong Kong horror offering, not least because of its exasperating u-turn right at the end.” Gabriel Chong, Movie Exclusive

” …a slow-burner which builds its unsettling vibe with admirable flair – before succumbing to an onslaught of over-the-top genre clichés in the last reel […] Buyer Beware is at its scariest when it offers us sightings in mundane locations, which are later revealed to be consequences of horrible deaths by murder or accidents.” Edmund Lee, South China Morning Post

Buyer Beware was released in China by mm2 Entertainment on 28 June 2018

What Does R.L. Stine Think of the GOOSEBUMPS Flicks?

So far we have seen to successful adaptations of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps book series, but what does the man himself think about the movies thus far?

Turns out he digs them and thinks they get an important aspect of the books right time and time again.

What they get right,” Stine tells Cinema Blend, “is the mix of humor and horror. Because, I mean, if you read a Goosebumps book, it’s got a lot of laughs in it, a lot of teasing. Mainly because I don’t really want to terrify kids, you know, and I think they get that mix of scary stuff. They go into this old house, they find this book hidden room back, they opened it up, but there’s also a lot of laughs. I think that they had the right mix.”

What do you think of the Goosebumps flicks? Make sure to hit us up and let us know what you think in the comments section or on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween is directed by Ari Sandel (The DUFF) from a screenplay written by Rob Lieber. It stars Madison Iseman, Ben O’Brien, Caleel Harris, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ken Jeong, and Chris Parnell.

It’s now playing in theaters.

Two boys face an onslaught from witches, monsters, ghouls and a talking dummy after they discover a mysterious book by author R.L. Stine.
